New decor--compliments of Hannah

While Hannah was here she did a bit of decorating for me. I had a theme in mind but, I was trying to be very choosy in what I purchased. Well, Hannah is just much better at this than I am, although I do try!! While I probably wouldn't have gone the same direction, I do like what she did and I think it goes well in the cabin. She's just good like that!
The mini lanterns, red beries and lantern and the pine are all in the bathroom. The rest is in the living room. As of now, we have only just begun to redo the kitchen. The plan is to tear out the existing cupboards and replace and add more. The top will be open shelving. More on that later. I'm going to redo the bedroom,too but, since we now have Tom's granny living with us and in our room--well--that project is on hold.
The saucer and cup were just too cute to pass up! I got 4 of each at the thrift store. Since I'm doing the kitchen in yellow, blue and white and going with the mix-match idea in dishes, I thought these would go great!
Life has changed drastically for me in the last 3 months. If I happen to come across your mind maybe you could whisper a prayer for me? I would sure appreciate it!!

Another birth

My weekend-well-at least 33 hrs. of it--were spent helping a new mommy and daddy bring theirbaby into this world! Started out Fri. eve. and wasn't over til 3:03 Sun. morn. It really was a day of Independence for little Timothy!!
I again learned new things and although the birth did not go as we all would have liked or had planned for, they have a beautiful, healthy little son.
Birth is an absolute awesome journey--not to be feared, but embraced and enjoyed.
I'm very thankful God has allowed me to be a participant in his miracle of life and for the moms he has given me to work with.
At this particular birth we had a very sweet spiritual moment that actually included the young nurse who put on a praise instrumental and shared her devotional study from that morning. It really touched the heart of the mommy. The dad voiced how awesome it was to be surrounded by Christians at that time. Very sweet, indeed!

Out to sea and Wisconsin

Our oldest son, Nathanael, will be going out to sea again this morning. This is the 2nd trial run then the ship will deploy. I wish we could be there to see him off when they deploy but---$$$--you know that green stuff??? We pray for his safety and safe return.
Our new g-baby, Caleb, turned a month old yesterday!! How time goes by sooo very quickly. Chastity will be 2 next month. She loves her baby brother --talks to him, kisses him and yes, tries to pick him up! I think he'll be her little side-kick.
Aaron is glad to be working the regular job again after the winter. Construction is good but the winters can get long.
Tom and I will be leaving in the morning for a much needed vacation. We'll be going to Wisconsin for a week of whatever we want to do. I know I'm goingto enjoy-whether Tom can clear his mind of everything for a week remains to be seen! I do hope he can--he needs it.Life has been -well- quite full.
I am just about done with my certification as a Doula and have decided to expand my business endeavors a bit. I will also be offering placenta encapsulation and pre-made home cooked meal delivery--all for an added fee. We'll see how it all goes. My business cards don't reflect these new things but--I'm not going to pay to have it all redone right now.This is the background of my bus. cards--guess who the mommy is?!

I do hope anyone who may read this is doing well and that life is being kind to you. I have found great satisfaction in being able to go to God for friendship, stregnth and help. I hope you all find that so, also.

BABY!!!!

Tom and I are grandparents again! Caleb Wade Heintzelman was born at home at 12:11 a.m. this morning (20th) 9lbs. 6 oz. and 22 1/2" long. Both are doing great. I (Connie) got to be there with her and Hannah did a great job birthing him into his new world.
I'll be able to post some pics later--after we get some Hannah likes!

Cabin Update

We are in but, everything is not in place! In fact, most of it is in the basement! We've been enjoying the fireplace almost every night. From our bedroom we can watch the fire as we drift off to sleep--how cozy is that!?
Daffodils are coming out and we're seeing lot's of wildlife activity--deer, squirrels and birds so far. It seems we have some Baltimore Orioles!
Tom plans to cut some paths for hunting--let's see--we can hunt from the loft window, the deck or outside! Should be lot's of fun!
We've been able to share the place with friends who have found it a real blessing.That's a nice feeling.
I'm looking forward to IHC in Dayton--hopefully I'll be back in town by that time. Hannah is doing well--hoping to have the little guy soon. When she goes into REAL labor they'll call and I'll make my arrangements to go for a week.

New house? 2

Remember the cabin from a few post back? Well. Lord willing, next Thurs. Tom and I will be the new owners of it! For us it's sort of our little dream place--our cabin on a hill. It sits on almost 2 acres with alot of deer activity in the back, an equestrian stable to the right and a millionare in the far back. To the left is open land that belongs to our former land lord.
In the kitchen pic there are 2 cupboards that will be put back up where the bare places are. The bedroom is pretty small but, we'll make do since we want to keep the loft as open space for recording and a place to hang out. It will also serve as a guest area.
We're looking forward to moving in--it will be 1 big move!--thanks to our friends who have agreed to help us.
So--the Lord does give us the desires of our hearts if He sees them as good for us!! Even in the material things sometimes.

Thanks to, Marie, at I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls,(Maria, on my list)I found out it was national tea month. So, in response to her post I'm celebrating the rest of tea month! Tom and I usually have tea about every night--maybe 2 cups! I plan to have a tea party with my mom, sisters, maybe a few neices and a few friends this spring. I have been collecting tea cups--I don't have a matching tea set , but that's ok, we'll have fun and the tea will still be good!

You've heard the saying "feed the pig", right? Well, I've found a few that are too cute not to feed!! Makes saving that changs a little more fun.

Another project

I have intended to make lip balm for some time now--I finally got it accomplished yesterday and this morning. I'm happy with it and Tom thought it was good--smooth with a little peppermint tingle. I may try some othr combinations later--this batch will keep us through several months!

Food, family and fun

These are some of the things I've tried and some I continue to do and use.
There's cooling chicken broth, simmered for hours to get all the nutrients and homemade, creamy yogurt.There is a jar of lavender infused raw honey from Tom's own hivesbeside the jar of rose buds. This is new for me , but it's alot of fun and gives a nice result. Ihad already done a jar of rose honey-a very delicate flavor!I also have a container of plain honey which we use quite a bit.Then there's a gallon of organic virgin coconut oil. I not only use this in cooking, but we use it as our body lotion too. No, you don't smell like coconut and it soaks in realatively quick. So,we can keep our skin soft and nourished at the same time! The bag is red clover which I'll be using to make cough syrup. I had a small bottle that an aquaintance had made and I really liked the results it gave so I want to make some to have on hand.The 2 bottles off to the left are Tahitian and Bourbon vaniila. I statred my vanilla back in June and let it set til Christmas-very good! I love the Tahitan vanilla! It has such a rich and wonderful flavor! The small bottle in the front is Echinacea with peppermint tincture. We use the tincture alot to ward off sickness. It does a very good job to stop it if you catch it at the first inking of it coming on--if you don't then it still helps to cut down the severity and legnth, we think.
These are just a few things I do that I enjoy and we can feel good about ingesting. I have done some dinks that are very refreshing and helpful for the body but, since I did not have access to good ater they were let go for a while. Later you'll see that that is soon to be remedied! I also do a milk kefir--this is an excellent probiotic and actually makes wonderful smoothies!
This may sound strange to some, but the health benefits are too good to give up!

Family scenes with Chastity

Scary? Nah--I had seen this area in passing a few times and thought it would be great to have a source of water other than city water. I don't like the thought of ingesting the chlorine and possible flouride! So--one day I finally went over with my jugs to fill and -wa-la! the sign said it was unsafe! Rats! I thought my source was gone until I saw a lady filling her water jugs there. I stopped to ask her and she assured me she has been drinking the water for years and knows older folks that have been drinking it too. Good enough! Now, hers wasn't the only word I took for it, I did talk to someone else, too. We're happy to be able to have a good source of water--now I can get back to making some good, healthy, refreshing beverages! Oh, the litte things in life!!

Andy, Hannah and Chastity enjoyed some winter fun while here. Chastity wasn't so sure about the snow-it was so cold. The snowman was Andy's creation!

New house?

Tom wanted to show me the place he would like to own, so while we were out scoping out the hunting area we went to this little place. It sets up on a knoll on about 2 acres. The kitchen/dining area has french doors that open on to the deck on the other side of the house-very nice! There are 2 bedrooms and baths. We're assuming the upstairs is an open loft. We are thinking about checking it out. Maybe while the kids are home we'll all go take a look! Anyway-it's all fun to think about.

Tom and I wish you a very Merry Christmas!

It sure is different not having the children home for the holidays. We'll see Aaron and Shannon today and celebrate with my family tonight. We'll celebrate with Hannah and her family in a few days. Nate and Becky won't even leave WA. til Weds. My, how time changes things!
We are so very glad Christ came, but even more glad He completed the plan of salvation for us!Some days more than others, we are acutely aware of our need of Him. I am so glad HE KNOWS!
He is most trustworthy for every need!

Waiting patiently

That's what Tom and I are doing.We're so looking forward to the children being with us again. This will probably not happen again for a year or more since Nathanael will be shipping out in the early spring and may be gone for a year. Hopefully, Aaron, is not called up to go!
Hannah, Andy and Chastity are to be arriving next Mon. eve. and should get to stay for the week. Nate won't be here til about the 10th--it's up in the air whether or not Hannah and Chastity stay on til he gets in, but we're hoping they do.At least Andy wants her to! Aaron isn't far so it should be no problem for him to be here.
It's a busy end of the year--lot's going on in our little part of the world. I hope all of you are enjoying the season and looking forward to spending it with family and good friends.
I'm sure I'll have pics and things to post once the kiddos arrive--how can a grandma not share her time with her grand-baby!?

Thanksgiving breakfast, dinner and Christmas lunch

Thanksgiving morning started pretty early for us. We were having our friends over for a breakfast of sausage gravy and biscuits, quiche, pumpkin scones, cinnamon rolls, fruit salad, hot choc. and tea. Tom's chef hat was essential for him to be able to work properly--or so he said! He helped me make the scones the night before then tended the sausage for me in the morning. Yes, I cooked in my robe! Not a flattering pic, to say the very least!! When I get up at 4:30 to cook, well--I stay in my robe!
Everything was enjoyed and the company was good. It's so very refreshing to meet safe, honest people who are genuine and also love God truely. These kids have really taken to Mr. Downer! He has so many fascinating stories to tell them and they seem to like them all. He and most of the boys did a major wood-splitting job a few weeks ago and they had such a great time.
There were 15 of us but we all fit very nicely into the new place.

Every year my family gets together and shares a potluck meal for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I believe if we were all there, there would be about 113. We don't seem to go a year without adding 1 or 2 -maybe more- to the family. So far, there are 3 new babies expected next year--one will be the first great-greeat for my folks! Dad stopped by on his way home from a hosp. stay!! that accounts for his worn look. The little guy was our littlest helper!

Old news- new news

For the old news first--when Hannah, Andy and Chastity were here a while back we went to the Creation Museum. It's a very interesting place and takes a while to go through if you're going to see, read and hear it all. The walking paths are very nice and there are plenty of photo ops. Chastity liked the little petting zoo-well-for the most part.
Tom and I are settling in to the new place. It's a mess right now as I go through boxes and decide what to keep and what to pitch. I wish my family were closer so they could help me out by taking some of the things-I know someone could use it!!

As for the new news-- Hannah found out they are having a BOY! She did't think to tell the Dr, she didn't want to know so the Dr. went to pointing things out before Hannah could tell her. She had an ultrsound because she and Chastity were in an accident the day before and she was just getting things checked out. Otherwise-she
wouldn't have had it because she really doesn't like to do it.

Now, this is only for you who are very interested in all things natural as far as birth--if you're not--just skip the next few sentences and go on to the pics!
I can now add a new skill to my resume'--placenta preparation--namely encapsulation of the dried placenta. I did this for my doula client this week. It's interesting but not so bad if you just do it. For all the benefits of the placenta I think it's a good thing for moms to at least consider. I'm learning a lot and I must say-it's a very fascinating new world of information.

Moving, etc

This Fri. eve. Tom and I and my siblings and their spouses will help my parents celebrate 65 yrs. of marriage. We're very happy and proud to be able to do this another year.

Life has a bit busier than normal lately. Tom and I have moved, although the process is ongoing for a few more days. We have downsized from a 4 bedroom farm house to a 1 bedroom mother-in-law suite of about 900 sq. ft. or so. It's nice and cozy and enough for Tom and I. I've posted a few pics of the new place so far. I'm not done pulling it together but, we think it will be nice when it's done. Going through things and deciding what to keep and what to get rid of is the worst part of the job in a way.
So--between moving, working, chiropractor and the other tasks of living---life is busy.

I'm sure most of you reading this blog already know that Hannah is expecting baby#2 in April. She plans a home water birth this time.Tom and I are hoping to be there at the arrival--not a month before though! After attending home births with the midwife, I know it can be done and done safely and beautifully. Yes, I am excited for her and looking forward to the birth.
As for birth, I'm enjoying learning and participating in the births and lives of the midwife and the women we deal with. Home birth is such a wonderful way to welcome a new baby into the world and to see the joy and satisfaction in the mom's face is really quite the joy. Now, home birth is not for everyone. It's a choice you have to make after educating yourself and being convinced that it's the right choice for you. However, it is safe and most women who experience it will never give birth another way if they can help it.
That's just some of my feelings on home birth. After all, why make a natural process that God gave us into a medical procedure/emergency. A pregnant woman isn't sick--she's pregnant! There are times for intervention but, in many cases it's the interventions--pitocin, epidurals, etc. that cause the problems in the first place and then constitute the "emergencies". Well, I'm sure there are some who agree and some who don't but, it's the beauty of life to be able to learn and form our own opinions on things. In the end- a woman should do what she is comfortable with and what she thinks is best for her and her baby.
Wow! I didn't plan on all that but, I guess that's where my thought are this morning! Enjoy the day!

Moving

Tom and I are going to be moving again come the first. We'll still be around Dayton, just in another place.
As some of you know, we were robbed about a month ago when Hannah and Chastity were here. We thought there was no damage to anything until I was cleaning the room Hannah stayed in--getting it ready for their family visit. I saw wood pieces on the floor and eventually the remnants of a bullet! When Tom got home we got to looking at it all and realized that whoever robbed us must have been armed. They had taken a shot or 2 into the bed! Maybe they thought someone was in there???? We'll never know. It put holes in everything clear through to the floor. Needless to say, I moved Hannah and family over to another room.
This in itself is a good reason to move but, we had planned on it anyhow.
Later, I'll post some pics of the new place--it's alot smaller but, we're excited about the change.

A couple weeks ago I won 4 tickets to the Sean Hannity Freedom Concert at King's Island in Cinci. Greg and Stephanie Burley were able to go with us at the last minute and it was nice to be with them again.
Not knowing exactly what to expect-or even if we'd enjoy it-we made the trip, ate some poor burgers inside the park, had our Starbucks, watched Tom take a ride-Greg couldn't fit-then settled in for the show. It was loud-can't say we really enjoyed all the music except for the patroitic songs. It was neat to see all the flags flying and hear the patriotism from the people.
It was just what it said- a freedom concert. I can't say that we would ever pay to go to one but, the money does go to fund college for kids who have lost a parent in the war and that's good. They introduced a few of the kids who have been able to take advantage of the scholorship funds.
They also had a surprise call from a girl stationed in Iraq-she got to call her mom-that was neat. Then they introduced a young mom who had lost her husband over there-the little boy was only 4-I don't think his daddy even got to meet him.
Anyhow-just a brief overview of the freedom concert.

Washington has broken teperature records since we've been here. Yesterday we went to Seattle and the temp topped at 104. Thankfully, it does cool down enough at night to sleep. Hardly anyone has A\C here but, store sold out of a\c ubits and fans! Nathanael was able to gert one by calling a buddy WHO HAPPENED TO BE AT A wAL-MART WHEN A TRUCK LOAD CAME IN. His buddy ran back and got the last one!
This morning we went up the road a couple miles and got a few pics of eagles. Going to try for some more tonight or in the morning.
This area reminds us a lot of AK. It's a very liberal area though. To be able to hunt requires jumping through a lot of hoops. I guess they figure if it's too much of a pain people just won't hunt.
Tom was very impressed by the cleanliness of the area when he hiked into the Olympic mountain on the Dungeness trail. The state does a good job of keeping the area clean by enforcing strict rules. They're nothing the good hiker can't live with and it does keep the rif-raf out.
He hiked in about 7 miles, spent the night and came out in the morning.He saw a lot of beautiful scenery and some wildlife. Unfortunately, the camera battery ran out! When we get home I'll be able to post some more pics. Without the 2nd screen it's hard to see what I'm choosing.

26 years!

26 years ago, Tom and I were in Florida. I was waiting for my parents, sister and nephew to arrive, Tom was working and we were getting ready to be married that eve.
I must say, I love him more today than ever. I'm so glad he chose me to be his lifes partner and companion.
I was up at 4 a.m. this morning to make the cinnamon rolls and bacon and egg souffle'. I had candles lit at the table, lace tablecloth, balloons , card and a new, beautiful flowering plant. I was pleased with the outcome---Tom was very touched by it all. I love to surprise him and do special things.
He is my sweetheart, friend and husband and I wouldn't want it any other way!

Anniversaries

The background is obviously Valentines but, it works! On the 17th it will be 26 years since I married my forever Valentine. I'm thankful to have a man who loves me and his children. He is a wonderful man and just what I need.
Hannah and Andy will also celebrate 2 years of being forever Valentines on the 9th! Man, where does the time go!? We are so happy for the husband God gave to her. He is just right for her and they compliment each other well.
Then, the elderly couple I sit with will celebrate 60 years of togetherness on the 18th! I think I'll bake some cupcakes for them and be sure to take my camera that day!
Then, of course, our newest little love--Chastity Ruth, celebrates her first birthday on the 12th. She is such a joy and oh-so-cute! Hannah and Andy are doing a great job training her and trying to insure she's a lovable, obedient little girl.
So--to any of you who are also celebrating an anniversary this month---CONGRATULATIONS to you, too!!!

Paper and toys

These are some of the recent finds at the Goodwill outlet. Hannah would like to have the doll set for Chastity but--who wants to pay $30 or more if you don't have too! So, while she was here, Hannah found the stroller. Chastity couldn't walk behind it very well but, she will the next time she comes! I found the high chair--I need to replace the seat cover-and the carrier after they were gone. All we need now is the pac-n-play and Chastity will have a set for less than $10.
The other find--and hopefully a bit of a money maker--yes-EBAY!--was 319 12x12 scrapbooking papers. 41 were double sided, 25 were just single sheets and the rest had at least 3 of the same--most had more. Also, I found 229 earthy brown card envelopes, 1 8.5 x 11 sheet, 1 pkg. page protectors, 2 stickers, 1 baby sheet of stickers, 1 alphabet set of stickers and 1 pkg of templates. Of the 319 sheets of paper, there were actually 5 Marines sheets! I've sold stamps on ebay and some have done very well so, I'm hoping these will do well. I know I'll recover what I spent--which was maybe 6 dollars or so--but I hope to earn a bit on them, too!
I do like a bargain and if I can make a bit on it that makes it better! I know--if you don't need it--no matter how cheap it is--it's not a bargain. This is what I know and keep in ind when shopping. I'm amazed at all the stuff some folks have in their carts! I know some resell but, I don' think they all do!!!!!!!!

Hannah, Baby and this and that

We so enjoyed having Hannah and Chastity home with us for a week. It was a surprise for Tom--he had no clue! This was actually the first time Chastity has felt good when we've seen her so, it was a real treat to be able to connect with her. She managed to tighten the final loop on Papaws finger! The pink horse is a thrift store find-$4.00. A lady at the office keeps telling Tom he needs to get Chastity one of those $250.00 horses! When I saw this one, of course I snatched it up! It doesn't do anything but, Chastity doesn't know that! She actually liked it!! It's hard to believe she'll be 1 next month!
We do hope you all are enjoying your summer--Tom and I are.

I so enjoy the seasons of flowers! It's amazing to think how creative God was in choosing the colors--what a dull world if everything were black and white! Of course, if it were, we wouldn't know the difference, would we???
Our small garden is coming along as well as some things in containers. Thanks to our new "neighbors" who so graciously offered to plow up a garden spot for us this year. We were pretty settled on just some container gardening. We had this same family over a few weeks ago for a meal--there are 13 of them at home and 2 not at home! They are very nice people, truly seem genuine, and the children are interesting and well behaved.

Thankfully they don't make their way to the front porch all the time!

Just a few random pics to give something new to look at. Life is moving right along for Tom and I. We have much to be thankful for and we're enjoying this phase of life.
I MUST get better organized so I can fit everything into life! Doesn't life have a way of getting away from you?? One minute at a time. Wow! I will be working on simplifying and getting organized. Too much STUFF truely makes life more difficult. Hopefully, I'll be able to fit blogging into the schedule a bit better. I do enjoy reading them and I know it gets rather boring not to keep mine updated so, that's one thing I'll work on!

New Study Finds Infant Formula Contaminated With Rocket Fuel Chemical

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found that 15 brands of infant formula are contaminated with perchlorate, an environmental toxin found in rocket and missile propellants. Two of the brands account for 87% of milk-based infant formula sales in the U.S. Perchlorate is a potent thyroid toxin that may interfere with fetal and infant brain development. The study found that reconstituting the formula with water that has levels as low as 4ppb of perchlorate would cause 54% of infants to exceed "safe" dosage levels of the toxin.

Sorry it's been so very boring here for soooo long! As a catch up I'll give some tidbits of recent days.
After I got back from "school" in TN. it was busy and then Tom and I went back to TN the 21st to spend a week in Gatlinburg with Hannah and Chastity. Andy could only come the last Friday because of work. We had a good time and as always, it went by quickly. One of the highlights was going to Dixie Stampede and watching Chastity enjoy the horses! It was absolutely adorable. She got so excited!
Back at home we have increased our household by 3 very cute puppies, born Thurs. afternoon. While not human--I did have to help her with a breech. I'm glad I hadn't left like I was planning to do.
Last night, Friday, Tom's family came for supper. Aaron and his girlfriend were here, too so that made it supper for 12. It all turned out real well and Tom said I did a good job so---well---I guess I did a good job! His 2 sisters and niece and nephew flew in from FL. and it was his dad's 80th b-day so that was the occassion. All 4 of the children had not been together for about 18 years! Aaron was 2 when we left FL. and that was the last time they were all in the same place. Pictures were a must!

Ina May Gaskin and I

Yes, I am back from a week full of information and learning in TN. I have a lot to share but, not a lot of time to do it right now. However, there is one project I would like to bring to your attention.
It's called the Quilt. This is a project started by Ina May Gaskin, renowned midwife and educator, to bring awareness to the maternal deaths of women. It is a startling fact when you find out how many of our women in the U.S. die from some sort of maternal complications--going up to a year or more after the actual birth--yet it is not reported as such. These deaths could be from a variety of reasons yet connected to the birth of a baby. We tend not to watch over our mother's very well after birth when compared to some other countries.
I have included a link to Ina May's site so you can read about this project. She is trying to bring awareness and get something going in WA. So far, no one has cared enough to listen.

This week has been busy getting things ready for Tom while I'm gone. Can't have him going hungry!
I leave early Sun. morning for Summertown , TN for a week of midwife assistant training. I'm looking forward to learning the skills and being able to assist some midwives in our area.
I'll be driving the beetle so I should fit in pretty well-at least that's our joke. The place I'm going to is actually --or should I say, was--a "hippie colony" from the 60's. They have since reformed some of their ways . One of the premier midwives in the country is there and women come from all over the world, literally, to birth their babies there. So, I feel I'm getting some of the best knowledge and training out there.
As a side, I have recently gotten a job working with elderly folks. I enjoy this , too. I find elderly people interesting and a lot of times, in need of someone to pay attention to them. So---I am working on both ends of the spectrum of life. That will prove to have a lot of emotion, I think.

As I've said before, Tom and I have enjoyed decorating the new place and finding things at low prices. These are just a couple pics of the kitchen so far. I'm leaving the walls white--I like the openness--and accenting with blue and yellow, mainly.
Lowe's had border marked down to $1/roll . I found 2 rolls that really caught my eye--not enough! Enter, Hannah! She was able to pick up 8 more rolls in FL. and brought them home on their vacation. Thanks to her and Andy, the border was up in no time! Hannah also helped with decorating ideas but, had to leave before we could finish anything. So--- here is what we/I have come up with so far. I'm taking my time and trying to find tings I LIKE! Not just things to fill space! I don't want a cluttered look any how.
Maybe I'll post some other pics as I go along. At least Hannah will enjoy seeing them! hee-hee

Okay, so anyone that knows me well knows my favorite stores are thrift stores. I mean--why would I pay top dollar for something I can get at half price or much less!It's a lot of fun to find an item you're looking for at a great price. I'm really thankful for those people who pay those high prices, gently use it for a while and then donate it!
Well, while Hannah was home we stumbled on a Goodwill outlet. All adult clothes are just 1.49 and childrens are cheaper yet--99 I think. While browsing the other day, I pulled out this very cute nightie and wouldn't you know!--it was Christian Dior from Saks Fifth Ave.! It looks new and feels oh, so soft! I would never think of spending what it would cost to purchase this new, but at 1.49 I think it was a nice deal.
How about you? Do you enjoy the challenge of shopping for what you need/want at thrift stores? I know it requires patience sometimes but, it feels better to spend less--at least I think so! Tom and I had a lot of fun decorating on the frugal.(not cheap)
If there's something coming up that you're going to need or just something you've been wanting, I'd suggest your local thrift shop--and have fun!

Tom and I were so happy to have all the kids and Chastity here for a late Christmas.
Aaron only got to be here for a day and a 1/2 but, we were all so glad he made it! Nathanael and Becky have left to visit other friends but, Nathanael will be in and out until Sat. He and Becky fly back to WA. Sun. morning. Aaron will be heading back to GA. where he's been working and will live for the next couple months until they move to another job.The next one may be NY. Hannah, Andy and Chastity fly out at 6 Tues. morning.
So--while it was a short visit--we were happy to be together. Nathanael will be starting sea trials ( I think that's what he called them !) in about 4 months . He'll be at sea a month or more at a time then back to port and so on. He will eventually be going away for a year or possibly a year and a half. All that to say--we don't know when we'll all be able to be together again.
Poor baby was sick most of the visit so, we're just now getting to see her at her real self. We think she's a dolly!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas and didn't over do it--either buy spending too much or eating too much!

Tom and I started our Christmas with his family. His brother, John and wife Chassidy did a wonderful job on the dinner--there was plenty to eat! We opened gifts and enjoyed watching Jocelyn enjoy her first Christmas.

At my family dinner there were over 100 in attendance this year. We had plenty of good food and a good time visiting. I really enjoy having such a large family. Mom and Dad had 10 children themselves--I'm #9. We have sort of come to expect at least 1 new baby each year!

Yesterday I purchased a "new" couch from Craigslist. Toma and I picked it up last night and it's now in place. We really like it. A nice couch to snuggle up in!
I also finished the tree except for adding some more icicles. This year the angels didn't look quite right so, in an effort to be frugal, I used a red bow. I think it looks fine. Oh!my lamp in beside the couch is my 2nd 99cent find! I love to find practical deals like that and yes, I do like the look the lamp gives.
We are looking forward to having our kiddos home for the holidays! The days will go by so quickly.

Last night Tom and I went to Lowes and found our present to each other--well--at least that makes it sound good! afterwards we went to Home Depot and then, to top it off, we ended the eve. with caramel latte's at Panera. It was a nice evening together, enjoying the shop and each other.
This is something we were wanting and it will be pretty as well as functional--how can you beat that!? Oh-yes--romantic, too!!!!

As thanksgiving is upon us I find I have so very much to be thankful for--we all do--even if at first glance it seems we could find more to complain or lament about.
The saying--just getting out of bed in the morning being something to be thankful for is very real. Think of those who can't or never will again. Yes, we can be very thankful if we can get out of bed in the morning-especially if we can do it without help.
I thought I'd just list some things I'm especially thankful for --not just on Thanksgiving but, every day. I hope you find just a minute to stop and think and be truly thankful for all your blessings--even those in disguise.
Now, my list:

Christ and all His provisions and GRACE! Without Him and His help and grace, I would truly be destitute. He is so AWESOME!!!!! And He knows!!! That's enough.

My wonderful husband who loves me, makes us his highest priority, works hard for us,seeks to be godly, loves his children (and grandchild), and the list goes on......

For my children . All of them are safe. I'm glad they choose to have a relationship with us and for the love we share.

I'm thankful for the prospect of us all being together in January.

For my large family and extended family. It's great to all be able to get together at the holidays. There always seems to be a new baby or two!

My marriage--this may sound like a repeat but, with satan wreaking havoc on so many marriages, I am thankful--oh, so thankful--for Tom and our marriage. He is an absolute gem and I'm so thankful God saw fit to bless me with such a man.

For life. We recently lost a dear friend-only 55 or so.A perfectly healthy, godly man, suddenly snatched away from family and friends through an accident. we never know our time--to be ready without a moments notice is the most important thing!

I know I could go on and on but, these are o few of the prominent things. I'm also sure your own list could go on and on and on..........

Tom and I have been busy moving and trying to get settled in a bit. It will all come together in time! Tues. afternoon we put blown insulation in the attic. There was nothing there so it was an absolute must. Only took about 2 hours so it wasn't too bad.

This past Sat. we attended my niece, Danielle's, wedding. Tom sang "I will be here" by Steven Curtis Chapman. He did an excellent job! I was very proud of him. I can't post any pics because I don't have any yet. Later.

We are enjoying the new surroundings and getting to know our way around--well, at least I am. Tom doesn't go much and when he does we're always together so if I can't remember or don't know the way, we rely on the GPS! Tom tells me he loves to be with me and go places together. That's so sweet after 25 years. We're doing our best to make sure that never changes!!! With satan desperately trying to destroy marriages it behooves us all to build our hedges and keep the flame burning brightly! It's a lot more fun that way anyhow!!!

If some of you were like Tom and I , you couldn't take it and went to bed BEFORE the election was called. It was such a disappointment to wake and find that our country--well, at least the unthinking, welfare grabbing, liberal-and I mean liberal- people have elected such a liberal, socialistic minded man to lead our country. Black has nothing to do with it, although I do believe there is a lot of racism there-especially his wife. I would gladly have voted for Alan Keys had he had a chance-and he's twice as "black" as Obama.
Change is on it's way--let's hope he does a good job and makes such a mess that in 2 years there will be an overthrow in Washington and we can salvage something. I just cannot believe the ignorance of people. It's so disheartening.
As for the early voting--it's such a crime--I wonder how many of those early voters wish they could recall that vote!
I'm ranting, I know. All is not lost though. To those who enjoy a handout and think the govt. and everyone else owes them a living--they won't be affected at all! Isn't that great? In fact. they'll get more checks! How fantastic is that! Do we live in a great country or what!
Anyway- God IS in control. A lot of times we see that it takes great crisis to bring change in a people or nation. Maybe this is the beginning of the end-maybe not. I do feel sorry for the folks who work hard for a living and have met with success--they stand to lose a lot.
Enough of that. God is always good and will forever come out the Victor. This is what we have to keep in mind. Besides, if this is a prelude to the end--that means redemption is closer than it was yesterday! Try to have a good day!! I'm going to.

These are the flowers Tom got me and then a very large, interesting bug that Tom found on the porch. Not to friendly looking-yuck!
We are moved-at least WE are-not quite all the stuff. We are liking the new place. Tom has been able to see several deer --he's ready to get settled a bit so he can actually hunt! I'm hoping to make him feel like he can do that by working hard to get things pretty much in order.
We are planning to host Tom's family for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners like We've done the past few years. They always enjoy it and we do, too. Then, on Dec. 6 I will be hostess to my family's girls Christmas exchange. They get to drive clear from Fostoria to Dayton but, hey, it's a real girl's day out! I'm looking forward to it. So, I have a lot of work to do in the next few weeks.

Well, our move is almost complete and we are very happy about it! Tom is enjoying the fact that even if he works late, he's still home by a decent time!
I'm anxious to throw a little color o the walls--white everything seems a bit--I don't know--just not to homey--maybe a bit cold.
Weds. eve. when I got back to Dayton, Tom not only had super started but, he had gotten a beautiful fall flower arrangement for me! How sweet was that! I want to post some pics but, as of right now the printer has yet to be hooked up again. Maybe I'll get to that today--then again--maybe I won't. There's only so many things I can do in a day and like I said, these walls are calling for some warmth!

Okay--so I had a quaint idea while we were loading to make a trip to Dayton Saturday. In discussing where we would put the moose antlers, Tom was going to put them on top of the load. That's how they traveled here from Alaska and it was quite funny to be video taped while driving down the road. We joked that we looked like the Beverly Hillbillies!
Oh, well--I digress----anyway--I thought we could put a sign on the back about moving Sarah Palin to Washington! So I made the sign and Uncle attached it to the back of the load. The only glitch was the placement of the antlers--they ended up on top of the Blazer. This somewhat minimized the effect of the sign but, it was still fun to watch people as they went by and made the connection. We even got video taped once! I was following Tom so I got to see some of the reactions. Great fun and I enjoyed making a statement!
Moving is going --well--it's going. I'm so glad to be moving!! We'll be official Dayton residents by Sat.

65 years and decor

Yesterday, October 16, my parents celebrated 65 years of marriage! Quite the milestone. We celebrated with a carry-in dinner at my sisters house for mom, dad and just the children and their spouses.
After the dinner I was off to Dayton again. I think I'll know that road well by the time we're moved! Not near as well as Tom knows it, though!!! He's so happy to be moved and only 20 mins. from work.
Following are a few pics of the beginnings of putting the house together. Tom and I are having fun doing it together.
As a side, the table in the dining room is not the real one!! We'll pick up our new (used) dining set with small hutch next Sat. I'm excited about it!

The News

Okay, here's the news. After 3 1/2 yrs. of Tom driving back and forth to Dayton for work (almost 180 miles a day!) we are moving to Dayton! I am very happy to be moving and Tom is very excited to be moved, too. He'll only be about 15-20 mins. from work. He'll actually have some time to do something besides get home, eat and go to bed!
As an added benefit he has access to all the hunting area our landlord owns--200 acres behind our house plus many more acres close by. He is really looking forward to that!
The house was a wreck but, it has been completely redone from the drywall out--well--except for the floors! That's ok--we can deal with that. So I'll have a brand new kitchen--how nice is that! We'll have plenty of room when the kids are all home, too.
Did I mention that Tom and I are very excited to be moving? It's like starting over again but, I have to say--I'm still happy to be moving.
I've posted some pics--mostly for the kids to see-so I hope they don't bore the rest of you. You know what life will be for me for the next little while since I'll be doing most of the sorting and packing by myself. What a job! but, I'll just dig in and get-r-done!
As a side--I hope you're all paying close attention to the candidates--I think if you do you'll have NO choice but MCCAIN/PALIN!

Cider time! This year Tom put a motor on the press. Last year he had sore joints from cranking the thing so much. Then, when it would catch, that didn't help. So--with the motor, cider is much easier to do! The hard part this year is getting the right mix. We couldn't get the same kind of apples we got last year--which made a delicious cider! We're starting all over trying to find the right combination. Tom likes to do it more "scientifically" instead of just throwing any and all apples together. It was very rewarding last year--our cider would last almost 2 weeks in the frig. and still be good--not hard! Everyone who tasted it really thought it was an excellent cider. I don't think we'll be as pleased this year, although we're certainly trying to get a good mix.
Fall is upon us and I must admit, it feels sort of good. Tom is anxious to get to the woods and hunt. It would sure be nice if he could get another nice deer this year. Last years was soooooo good! One nice deer would complete our meat for the year since I'm getting a 1/2 pastured pig and a 1/2 grass-fed beef. Funny-in Alaska just 1 good sized moose would be all you'd need for the year!

Aaron is doing well in training. He did have to have 15 stitches between 2 fingers. A week ago Sun. he was cut by a knife- right down between the fingers. OUCH! They wanted to set him back but, he said no-he'd met all the requirements just like everyone else had. So--they let him stay with his company. Hopefully it's healed well and he'll have no problems. Of course. I started to talk to him about keeping it clean, etc. He stopped me and reminded me that he knew all about that--they're all given basic medic training! Is it hard not to be Mom?????

I must end by reminding you that God is truly an AWESOME God! How He loves us and cares for us is nothing short of amazing! He has proven it over and over. I wouldn't know what to do without Him.

On being helpful

Ok, so there I was, standing near my man, not quite by him, while he was busy sucking yellow jackets up with a shop vac. We were helping a neighbor--the yellow jackets were coming into her daughters room.So--being the helpful, loving wife that I am--I was there with Tom. Mind you-I-(yes,me)- was the one standing pretty still while Tom was moving around and making quick movements-something bees don't like. Well-as you've probably already guessed--I was the one to get nailed! Now, I don't think it was looking for me but, I was in his line of fire and he hit me right under the nose! I hurried home-about 2 mins. away at my speed today--to get some comfrey to help lessen the swelling. I knew I wasn't getting it on fast enough to keep it from swelling but,I knew it would probably keep it from being full blown. The treatment does look lovely, don't you think? Call it a spot facial!

Last weekend when Tom and I were in Dayton, we ate at a very eclectic restaurant.The food was good and the dessert was great! I can't remember what the waitress called it but, it was a chocolate lava cake. Tom really liked it so-----last night I surprised him with it! I know this is so bad--sugar and white flour! then add the Breyers icecream!--oh, my. It was a hit with Tom, though. It will be one of those few and f-a-r between treats!

Aaron is not at camp Lejune--he's at camp Gieger. This is still in NC and actually close to camp Lejune.
He flew there Mon. morning and will be there for 52 days. After that--it remains to be seen.
There is a good possibility that his company will be called up in the next6 months I guess. That is not a comforting thought.
Pray for him if/when he comes to your mind. I'm sure he would appreciate it.

These are some more pictures from Aaron's graduation and some fun time Tom and I had. The troops did an early morning run on Thursday and we were able to be on base to watch. After the run they cleaned up, got into thieir uniforms and there was a small ceremony in the building before releasing them to their families for a few hours. They could not leave base but, there were plenty of places to eat and shops to go to. It was a nice time.
Now Aaron heads to Camp Lejune, NC for another 52 days of training. I guess there is a good chance his company will be called up- maybe in a few months or so. I know this is what they were trained for but, we sure hate to see him go. It's such a scary prospect.

We are back from graduation. It was a very nice trip. We weren't able to spend a great deal of time with Aaron but, what we did spend was good. We heard nothing but good from his drill instructors. He was promoted to Private First Class and was Iron Man of the company-basically 400 other recruits. He has 10 days off and them goes to Camp Lejune, NC for 52 days of intense training.

Tom and I are off to SC for the whole weekend! We are really looking forward to getting away. Aaron is to graduate the 29th from Marine boot camp. They say it's quite the performance. I know the Naval graduation was quite impressive! We'll see who out does who! A bit of rivalry between the 2.
We'll spend 2 days in Yemassee, SC-about an hour from base, then after graduation we'll head north to Congaree Nat'l. Park for some camping and relaxation.
This past weekend we spent in Dayton and visited John Manley's church. It was very good and we had a nice time. On the way home we stopped at Menke park in Troy and had a nice picnic lunch. A nice end to a nice weekend.
I would encourage you to take any burden to The Lord--He truly is our Rock and strong tower! He has proven Himself so clearly recently-I'm humbled and so very grateful to see Him working!

Well, yes. You've heard of egg sucking dogs--meet Joey--our tomato (and almost anything else) eating dog. AND----he leaves the stem! When Tom and I were peeling the outer leaves from the cabbage the other day, I had 1 nice size tomato laying on the ground also. When we were done and I went to pick up the tomato--right--it was gone. Joey could be seen a little ways off chowing down on it and by all indications, was enjoying it quite well! He didn't even seem to realize he had done a bad thing! We're just glad they know not to go into the garden!
Tom and I are working on the final plans for the Mexico trip and also for a trip to TN. in March. We're hoping Hannah, Andy and Chastity can come and spend some time with us there. We think we're gonna like being able to go a few places.
Life has been extremely stressful lately but, I would like to report that God has given definate answers to prayer and has over and over proven Himself real and mighty to deliver! Not only that, He has been so gracious in showing us how much He loves us. I do not know what I would do without Him. I, for one, need Him very much!
Next week we will be heading to SC for Aaron's graduation from Marine boot camp. That should be a thrilling time. We want to make a mini vacation of it since we'll already be that far--we'll see how that goes.

My adorable husband is taking me to Cozumel, Mexico!! I know you're all jealous-what can I say?? I have the best! (even without the Mexico trip!)
We're planning a November get-away- won't that be fun! While you're all chilly here, we'll be enjoying the white beaches of Mexico for 4 days and 3 nights. We're so excited! We've never done anything like this before so it will be a very neat experience.
We'll be doing the final planning this week and then counting down the days!

Best get back to work--I just had to share that news!

Kraut time

This morning Tom and I did our first batch of kraut from the cabbage in our garden. We harvested about 21 heads and fit all but 6 in a 15gal crock. Mon. I'll do the rest in a smaller crock- once I get it from my sister!
We still have about 25 heads left in the garden--do you think we wanted plenty of kraut this year? Some of it we'll eat as fried and in soup- the rest will also become kraut.
Anyway-harvest time is fun---work--but, fun/

Farmer's market

Thursday night was the first farmer's market for Ada. It's a trial run to see if people would be interested next year. Tom and I participated with what little we had and actually did well. We came home-(we left early) with only 1 each of zucchini, cabbage and pkg. of rhubarb. From our small fare we earned 54.50 in less than an hour and a half. It was kinda fun. Here's a pic of our table.
The farmer's markets are a good way to get that fresh-and sometimes chemical free- produce that you can actually feel good about eating and spending a bit extra on.

We'll see how it goes for next week-by that time I think we can add tomatoes to our fare.They're slowly starting to ripen. I think they'll all ripen at pretty much the same time- making putting up tomatoes a really fun job!

Ok- my computer has cooperated and I can finish ny original post on babies and flowers!
I think they have a lot in common, such as:
they're fragile,unique, pleasing to be around, lovely to look at, smell good, are soft, a wonder to watch grow, offer lot's of beauty and enjoyment...
I'm sure you could add some things. I know we're enjoying our flowers, in fact, I've harvested lavender flowers and clover, as well as yarrow to dry for later enjoyment.
We certainly enjoy getting to see Chastity via Skype, too. Makes us want to give her a good squeeze!
I hope you find some simple, everyday things to enjoy. God has given us a lot of simple things for our relaxation and enjoyment if we stop to see them.

We certainly have enjoyed getting to know Chastity. Her Papaw is very proud of her and they've had several little chats!We went on a picnic, which was Chastity's first.
Of course, several people got to meet her at the shower Sat. All to soon Monday morning will be here and then they'll go home and we'll only get to see her via Skype. That's better than not at all, though! I think Hannah and Andy have enjoyed the time here. Hannah is truly a wife/mother now-
enjoying being home but, it will be good to be back at her own place. Babies have a way of changing our lives, don't they?!

Hannah, Andy and "baby" arrived safe and sound this morning. Tom was quite excited to meet Chastity! He took us up to the SS bldg. and showed her off to a bunch of his co-workers. Of course, all the ladies though she was so cute.
She's tired and out of sorts-hopefully she'll be able to be comfortable while she's here. Tom has taken off work til Tues so he can bond with baby. It's gonna be fun!
We did some pics of Chastity and Jocelyn- Tom's brothers baby. Jocelyn is almost 4 months while Chastity is 5 weeks.

This is a pic I took for Tom- just for fun. He actually liked it so I guess I did ok. It's a nice way to make a personalized card just because.
Tom filled in for Bro. Foreman at Port Clinton last eve. He did a good job speaking on transitions of life. Truly- Christ is the only ONE who can bring us through some of them without becoming a statistic. The people enjoyed it and it spoke to several needs there in the congregation. It pays to get the mind of Christ- you never know who you'll be ministering to--but God does. We got to visit with the Butcher's afterward and had a good time reconnecting. Didn't get home til 1 a.m. so Tom slept in just a bit! He only works today and Tues. because "baby comes tomorrow!"
We are excited about seeing/meeting Chastity- especially Tom. He'll enjoy her so much!
It will be nice to have Hannah and Andy home, too. I've scheduled a 1 hour massage for Hannah--she's thinking that will feel really good!
I"m working on laundry and a quick run through of the house, then I'm out for my walk. I've started walking 2-3 days a week at least. Gotta stay healthy! Besides- there are a few extra lbs. I'd like to be rid of. I think it's helping already! Woo-hoo!

These are some of the first things I've harvested from my own garden- mint (2nd harvest) purple basil and yes, my first zuchini! ( how do you spell that?) I used the mint for tea, fried the zuchini up with one from a friend and made fresh pesto with the basil as well as freezing some of the leaves for later. As for the pesto- someone said the purple was pesto on steroids. We sort of agree! It is a stronger flavored basil but, the pesto was good!
I have gobs of tomatoes on the vines. Most likely everything will start coming on when I have to be in TN. for a week! Hopefully it won't start full force til I'm back home and can deal with it.
we are anxiously waiting for Hannah and Andy to get here with Chastity! Our first stop after picking them up at the airport will be Tom's office. It will be his first time to meet her and then a bunch of the women in the office are wanting to see her. Most everyone loves a baby, don't they?
I'm sure we'll have at least one or two pics of her visit home!

Yesterday I turned 45. I don't think I've been sung to as many times as I was yesterday! I even heard it mentioned on the radio- which is usually not on at that time. I had a good day and a very relaxing evening with my favorite man.
We are looking forward to Hannah, Andy and Chastity coming home Tues. It will all go by way to quickly.
I've added a couple pics to show the latest changes I talked about in home decorating! Some day I may actually get it all done! Yeah!
Today I'll be picking gooseberries. I think longer sleeves are in order- my arms are just healing from the raspberries. I really like summer harvesting of all the goodies. Maybe I'll try a gooseberry pie-hmmm-granny said they take a lot of sugar though. I'll see what I can do. Sugar isn't in our diet anymore- at least not white sugar. I use raw honey or real maple syrup so it makes baking just a bit different.We shall see!

Yesterday- Mon. - I picked almost 12 lbs. of black raspberries. My arms, especially my right arm, looks like I was in a cat fight! Next time I'll have to wear wrist length sleeves.Oh well, I'll survive and the scratches will heal and we'll have honey sweetened blackberry jam and some juice concentrate to add to lemonade later! I made smoothies last night using raw heavy cream, pure maple syrup, some berries and a little raw milk. Yummm! Nice and rich! Tom and I had a smoothie for breakfast this morning, too.He really enjoys them.
The sunflowers, etc. were a hostess gift from our friends. We had them over for Sun. dinner and had a good time visiting. The flowers make such a splash I think. They just say summer in a big way. I love picking flowers and weeds to make fresh bouquets for the table. Fresh flowers for nothing!
My handyman-my hubby- put chair rail up in the kitchen for me Sat. I'm now debating whether to paint it white or leave it and stain it lightly. By the way, my kitchen is still in the process of being made over. I think it will look so nice when I'm done.
I"m also painting our room. It already looks nice and I'm not finished. Tom liked it so, I think I did alright!
Well, enjoy the day. I must keep moving to get everything done!

Our salute to all the troops-past and present! May God protect those in harms way!
I guess this 4th of July means more to me and is closer to home than ever before since we have 2 boys of our own currently serving. We've always been patriotic but, it sure drives it home when your own are in.
I did a little display to honor our families servicemen-past and present. We have 10- ranging from WW2 to present. 3 of our boys are currently serving- Dan Guy- 2nd tour in Iraq, Nathanael currently stationed in WA. and Aaron in Marine boot camp-OOH-RAH!
The others are my dad, Jack, brother-in-law, Ron, brother Dan, brother-in-law, Phil, nephews, Theron, Tommy,and Benny.
Thanks to all of you!!
We have had a family reunion at my sisters for our immediate family for the last several years. It's always a nice time and helps us keep connected.I've posted a few pics of the day and a couple of the display.

I have to say, I really do enjoy picking berries and such. I picked some mulberries and raspberries down at my folks the other day. I didn't get a lot but, it was fun. Monday eve. Tom and I got to go cherry picking--and they were free! I went back Tues. and picked another 2 gallons. All together we got about 5 gallons. I'm gonna make Tom a pie and then juice the rest for later. I think some cherry lemonade and cherry smoothies would taste good come Nov. or Dec., don't you? I know Hannah will enjoy it when she comes home.
Looking forward to the Independence Day celebrations. I'm making a family display of all our past and present service men. I think we have 9 altogether. 3 of them serving now.

Life is continuing on at a pretty good pace! I have to admit, today I don't feel like trying to keep up! We're getting the garden in shape. Being gone a month made some extra work but, it's looking nice. I've pretty well finished the pond. We have some plants in it that the fish really like and-woo-hoo! we even have a resident frog and 2 large snails! It's alot of fun to do and watch. Things are looking nice- just not a lot of different things as far as vegies. My herbs are looking healthy so I should have a nice little crop to dry for use this winter.
Tom is very anxious to meet and hold Chastity. If all goes as planned they will be home the first part of Aug. Oh, boy!
An interesting thing happened at the hospital where Hannah was in FL. I met Dr. Thomas Enyart.(hope I spelled it right) He spoke to Becky , the girls and I at the elevator. He looked so familiar and I had heard the nurse call him Dr. Enyart but, I couldn't place why he looked so familiar. It finally hit me-a blog! I had seen his wifes blog. Is it a small world or what!
I have lot's to get accomplished today so I'd best close this and get moving. It is only 7:25 a.m. and I have a load of laundry ready to hang out,rearranged a couple pieces of furniture, changed my tablecloth and just about finished the dishes. I guess I'm not doing to badly!
Have a good day and take time to smell the flowers! They'll be gone before we know it!

The frame Tom is holding is what a fully capped frame of honey looks like. He cuts the caps off and then it's spun out in a small extractor. Good honey!!

Confession

Ok- so I must confess--I'm becoming what is referred to as a birth junkie! As I become more educated in this field I am also becoming more passionate about birth and the process of it. It is a beautiful thing and every birth is it's own story.
While I am committed to natural birth and educating my clients and friends about it, I do know there are times when intervention is absolutely necessary. For Hannah we all agreed that whatever needed to happen would be ok. She was committed to a natural birth but, with the test results from the sonagram at 41 wks. showing low amniotic fluid, we knew we were possibly running some risks by waiting the full 42 wks. So--she chose to go to the hospital for an induction. If this would have led to a c-section because of risk to the baby, she was ok with that. She wanted what was best for the baby.
Natural birth is a world that is largely unknown by the medical profession. Many doctors and nurses have not witnessed a natural child birth and therefore do not understand the process. While we are the greatest country on earth and I'm very thankful for all the technology, unfortunately, birth is one area that has been turned into a medical procedure instead of the natural process that will take care of itself, so to speak, if left to take its course. Again, thank God for technology when needed.
Note: I will be posting tidbits of information on medical procedures and natural childbirth, because I find it very interesting and informative. That's also my new profession. I welcome comments and questions! It's always fun to have a good discussion.

I arrived back in OH late, late Sun. eve. thanks to USAir. They got me into Pliladelphia just as my connecting flight was to leave so I had to book the next Dayton flight-leaving 3 1/2 hrs. later, then got diverted to Col. for almost 2 hrs. due to weather. We lost the first night of our cabin because of it all but, it was good to be back with Tom.
We headed to the cabin Mon. morn.-very nice drive and a pretty area-Hocking Hills. We had a very nice get-away and took our time coming home. We stopped in old Dublin for a starbucks and found a specialty childrens shop. Papaw bought his new grand-daughter her first gift from him! Hannah doesn't know what it is as of this posting so-----
I"m very glad I was able to be with Hannah for the labor and birth of Chastity. She did a fantastic job! We are so proud of her and her choice to stay "drug free" has paid off. Chastity is so very alert- has been from the get-go. She holds her head up, turns to sound, actually appears to focus on you when you speak to her, coos at you and is just very responsive. I actually got her first smile Sun. eve. Since then she's smiled in response as well as the involuntary stuff. Of course, we think she's a doll baby.
Hannah labored hard but, did a great job. It took all 3 of us-Andy, Courtney and I to help her through it but, it was a great experience. At one point they thought she may have ruptured so the pit was shut off- she was fine and thankfully- the pit was not restarted- that is until the Dr. thought the contractions were not coming soon enough during delivery! No rest in between? isn't that soon enough??? My rant- birth has been turned into a medical procedure and it's not that at all- you're not sick-you're pregnant!!!
Anyhow- Hannah and Baby are doing well, nursing is going great and Andy is already wrapped around her finger by his own confession! He so thought she was a boy so it was a bit of a surprise but, he loves her dearly. I think he'll be a great Daddy.

After many false alarms and much waiting, Chastity Ruth Heintzelman made her grand, and I mean grand, entrance into our world. She was literally a BIG surprise to everyone! Becky, Nathanaels wife, won the guess as to the weight-she said 10 lbs. Grandpa Downer got to attend the birth via Skype-not the messy stuff but, he was on during the end of the pushing and the big announcement. He liked that pretty well! Nathanael and Becky have gotten to see her via Skype,too. Aaron won't know she's even here or what she is til' next week due to being in boot camp. We all think she's just beautiful and the hair!! she has a FULL head of golden hair! Needless to say, I'm enjoying what little time I have with her. After being here a month, I'm leaving for home on Sun. Hannah would like for me to stay as we had originally planned-when we thought she'd be born earlier! but, Tom and I have a cabin booked for our anniversary and I need to be home. Tom has been a true jewel-he's been so very patient! I'll be happy to be home with my hubby and into my garden. I hope it won't need too much work!!!

Yesterday Hannah and Andy celebrated their 1st ann.! She did not want to be pregnant on her ann. but, she still is as of this posting. However! she was allowed to take castor oil this morning so---we shall see! She's feeling good-has the whole time--no miserable stuff for her. We are, of course, hoping for a short, easy delivery.

Waiting

We are all trying to wait patiently on Baby. The midwife is sending Hannah for a sonagram on Mon. just to check on everything-no-there are no problems, everything is fine- she just has to check before proceeding so we all know whats going on for sure. She will then see the midwife on Tues. and will most likely start some herbs to get things going. Of course, we're hoping she goes this weekend! Pray for a weekend delivery!
Tom is being ever so patient! He has gotten 3 swarms of bees in the last 2 wks. bringing his hive count to 5. That will mean quite a bit more honey than we had anticipated but, hey, that's good! Anyway, between the bees and college and work he's managing to stay busy.
We're hoping Aaron is doing ok in boot camp- can't talk to him yet. Nathanael and Becky have had a scare-someone broke into their house the other day. Didn't take anything but, left signs they were there.( lights left on, door unlocked, busted lock on one door and a footprint) Needless to say all the locks are changed and Becky will have her permit to carry and a new gun. Pray she never has to use them!!!!
I'll be sure to post as soon as Baby arrives!!

we don't know yet! Tom and Andy thought I should come on down last week since Hannah was having early labor signs so---here I am. The baby continues to tease but, I'm sure he/she will stop teasing before to much longer! Hannah is feeling good- hasn't slept well for quite some time and is getting tired quicker but, all in all she's feeling good. Andy is a very anxious daddy! He's going to be a joy to watch when the baby comes! Several of us have our predictions as to the sex, weight, and legnth of baby- we all missed the date!
Thurs. was Hannahs regular appt. with the midwife-she is dilated 2 and 50% effaced- baby is at -2 station. Hopefully, we'll be welcoming baby pretty soon.
Tom is getting along pretty good while I'm gone. I left food in the freezer and he's gotten a couple good meals from friends! He says he'll be making a major adjustment-- he'll have to start cooking!
Meanwhile-I'm helping Hannah-trying not to do it all since we want her to stay active!!
I'll be sure to post soon after baby comes!

Our garden fish pond

is coming along quite well! We were able to get a discarded pool liner to use as our liner. It's blue- not the typical black for a pond but, for FREE--hey! it works very well!You can see the stages up to this point. After it settles for a few days we'll finish off the edges and add more rocks and probably some stone. Of course, we'll add some fish in a week or so! This pond is really more than fun- we need it for the bees so they stay here instead of going to the neighbors pond. Their son is allergic to be stings. Anyhow-- it's a lot of fun and I'm sure we'll get a lot of enjoyment from it.
The last pic is of Tom watching the bees. I joined him but-of course- I couldn't get a pic of that! It looks like we'll have a very good harvest this year! The bees are working like crazy!!
I'm somewhat anxiously waiting to go to FL. Hannah is getting close to delivery! I'm trying to get things in order for atom so he can survive a little more comfortably while I'm gone. Oh-he can take care of himself- I just try to make it easier.
Nathanael and Becky are setting up housekeeping and feeling pretty good. I think they're enjoying the process!
I must get busy-have to iron, do dishes, laundry, make beds and whatever else I think I can get done! HAVE A GREAT DAY!

story to follow....

Nathanael and Becky were involved in a single rollover car accident this past Fri. on their way through Montana. Thankfully, they are fine !! However, the car is totaled! Nathanael actually had to shoot the passenger window out because he could not break them due to the car being compressed. They landed on the roof. The trailer they were hauling came loose from the car before (thankfully) they rolled. While it rode it out -so to speak- it too is a loss. Fortunately, there was only a spindle broken on the bed, which can be easily repaired, and a Tupperware container that was cracked. The other contents were all safe. As God would have it, an Allstate insurance man-actually a regional head- saw the whole thing, turned around and came back and really took good care of them- seeing how Becky has Allstate ins.!! He made some calls and the agent from Billings came and really took care of them. The car was paid off and they got a bit of cash in hand. They did end up purchasing a vehicle to get home- one that would be able to handle the mountain snow and grades. That's what caused the accident- the road went from clear to icy just that quick! The sheriff did not cite them because he said they couldn't have helped it- that just happens there. They were the celebrities in Big Timber, Montana for a couple days! Seemed everyone in the small town knew who they were. They are on their way home-just taking their time to get there!
Hannah was dilated to 1 as of last Thurs. so we're just in the hurry and wait mode! She's doing great and is pretty patient. No real complaints!
I've posted some pics of the bees to let you see how interesting it can be. They are really quite fascinating. If you'd ever like to see them just ask. We're hoping to get a really good harvest this summer!

Nathanael took Becky...

to be his wife on Sat., May 3rd, at Champion Nazarene Church. It was a lovely wedding, he was a handsome groom and she was a beautiful bride. Everything went well and the reception was very nicely done. It was held at SORRENTO'S in Warren, OH. They did a fantastic job with the food-sliced beef, chicken, green beans, parslied red potatoes, pasta bake, salad & fruit cup. The owner moved things along well and it made for a very nice evening. Becky's family had made gobs of cookies to add to the feast and they were all delicious. The banquet room itself is a very attractive setting for a reception. So-if you ever get to Warren and want a great place to get good food-stop at SORRENTO'S!
The newlyweds plan to stop by here Mon. or Tues. after picking up the trailer at her folks and then start their trip to their new home. It will be a long trip since they plan to switch off driving and basically keep moving till they reach home.
We are now waiting the arrival of Hannah and Andy's bundle of joy and then Aaron will leave for boot camp May 24.I do hope to be in Fl. when the big event takes place, help her out for a bit and then be back home to see Aaron off! Think I'll be able to pull it off??????
Good news about my Dad- he gets to come home today! It will be awhile before he's back to full capacity but, this is such a blessing that he has another lease on life-so to speak. God truly was very merciful!

there has been quite a bit of emotion for me of late. My dad was transferred to Cleveland Clinic in the hopes that they would be able to take care of his problems. The mitrol valve was leaking, he was fighting some pneumonia, his kidneys weren't working properly and he was plum tuckered out. His kidneys have not been up to par for some time and he had the mitrol valve replaced about 11 yrs. ago.We about lost him then as the valve pretty much disintegrated as they were opening his chest. Needless to say, we were anxious that time was wasting.When he was finally scheduled for surgery on Thurs. morning it was not a pleasant site that we walked in to. Dad was having quite a difficult time breathing and was very tired from lack of sleep. We were glad the time had finally arrived. We left home about 3:20a.m. in order to be there before he went to surgery. After the 4 hours of prep, the actual operation took only about 2 hours and all went well. What a relief to my Mom! So, it was a long day Thurs. Dad is coming along well except for the kidneys which they're keeping a close eye on.
On a lighter note, we are on the countdown for Nathanael's wedding this coming Sat. He leaves WA. Tues. and flies into Pittsburg where Becky will pick him up. We won't see him until Fri. when we go to Southington and probably won't get to spend much time with him before the wedding. Of course, then they're off and running! We may get to see him before they actually head back to WA.
Hannah is doing well. We're getting anxious for the baby to arrive. She is being very patient.It actually sounds as if Andy is getting more anxious that she is!I still hope to make it down for the birth but, she'll be in capable hands if I can;t make it.Tom's sister,Karen, has offered to be her Doula. She has been doing this for about 11 years and I hear she's very good. That all helps Hannah (and I) to be relaxed.
I completed my workshop for Doula training- one important step to my certification. I'm looking forward to getting it all complete!
Aaron volunteered to be layed off since he will be leaving for boot camp May 24. His boss was going to lay 3 guys off and asked Aaron about it. Works out in one way but, it sure doesn't bring in any money! It will sure be different not having any of our kids around for a while. We won't even be able to talk to Aaron for 13 weeks unless he would get a special privilege. It wasn't quite that long for Nathanael and he got a few special calls from his Petty officer.
We are working on our garden. We doubled the size this year so I thought I'd put a small pond in the middle for Tom. He really enjoys them. When I told him what I wanted to do he really took off with the idea. He dug it out Fri. night- in the shape of a heart. He said he couldn't think what shape to dig until he thought of me- is that sweet or what! It has 2 shallow parts, one a bit deeper and the the tip of the heart is about 3 ft. deep. We'll probably put some feeder goldfish in and maybe a bullhead! It will be good for the bees, too. It should keep them from going to the neighbors pond! Their boy is very allergic to bee stings-something Tom didn't know when he got the bees. I did post some pics of the proceedings. The picket fence in the garden is where my herbs will be planted and on the 3 other corners there will be wildflowers. We're majoring on cabbage and tomatoes but will also put in some beans and a few other things. We plan to do plenty of kraut this year and the flowers are of course for the benefit of the bees.

it sort of feels like things are starting to snowball a little. My dad was released from Toledo hosp. and put right back in Tiffin hosp. where he remains until Cleveland Clinic gets a bed for him. The Dr. is not very optimistic for a recovery. In fact, he said he will not get better but, maybe Cleveland Clinic will think they can do something he can't. Dad is in serious trouble-heart, lungs and kidneys are all in bad shape. He had the mitrol valve replaced about 11 years ago and it has started leaking. The million dollar question is how much is it leaking and can it be repaired. Then, there's the question of whether he is strong enough to find out. It just doesn't look good.
Hannah feels like the baby has moved down some more so, now I'm wondering about a trip to Fla. , also.
I think you can understand my first statement.
This past Sat. we had a shower for Becky and had a lot of fun. My dad sure got a kick out of the pics!
Say a prayer for my dad if he crosses your mind. He said it would be ok if it didn't work out but, he worries about my mom. He does a lot for her and they will celebrate 65 years of marriage in Oct.

My weekend was pretty full between hospitals. My dad was admitted to St. Vincent hosp. on Fri. -enlarged heart and kidney's shutting down- so I was at the hosp. half the day Sat. with him and some family.
Sat eve. my sis-in-law called at approx. 11:20 to say her and John were on their way to Lima Memorial- her water had broken! So- I got ready and headed to Lima. I didn't leave the hosp. til about 9:15. I acted as her Doula. She delivered Jocelyn Charlie at 7:13 a.m.- mother and baby are doing well. Jocelyn was 8lb., 20" long. This was my first birth to assist in so it was exciting.
Tom's bees are feeling at home and busily getting into Spring. Right now, he still has to feed them since there aren't to many blossoms yet.
I think the next major event is Nathanael's wedding on May 3rd. I do have a shower for Becky this Sat. but, that's not to major! After that is Hannah's baby and then Aaron leaves for boot camp. Of course, the garden should be in by then and I'll be working on getting some requirements met for my certification, then I'll be attending a midwifery workshop in Aug.and Oh-yes, Tom is taking 1 class at Sinclair college on Mon. eves. I guess the list goes on----------

BEES

These are Tom's bee hives. When we lived in FL. he raised bees and really enjoyed it! We are hoping to get a nice supply of our very own honey this summer! It will all be alive-not heated and killed-so we'll get optimal benefit from it. Bees are quite interesting-it would be a good subject to look into. So- in preparing to give the bees plenty of options, we'll be planting a bunch of wild flowers and sunflowers as well as the garden. We're looking forward to that first harvest-it's usually the lightest and best-well, if you prefer light honey!

Tom and I got to spend a nice relaxing evening in Dayton Friday night. We shopped a bit in Half-price Books then went to Panera for caramel latte's and a cinnamon crunch bagel with hazelnut cream cheese! We split the bagel so it wasn't soooo bad! We took the laptop and just enjoyed looking at some blogs and relaxing.
Sat. he was off to work early. I bought Panera for lunch and met him at work. After supper was over tonight I made a banana cake with REAL butter cream frosting and some coconut macaroons(in the oven as I write). I think we've had a nice weekend- a relaxing one that was much needed! Hope yours was "just what the Dr. ordered", too!

These are a few scenes from the last couple snows. Andy really enjoyed the snow before so, this is to let him see what he's missing! I really like the creek scene- we have a picture from Alaska that looks very similar to it and it's beautiful. My Sweetie got to try out the new snowblower. That was a good purchase on Uncles part and I think Tom enjoyed being out and working outside for a change. Being in an office all day isn't always the best thing. He enjoys the outdoors a whole lot more!
As all good things must come to an end they say, this snow will soon be gone with our warmer temps. coming in--and that's ok! So- if you just love winter and the snow--ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN!

April Showers Bring May.....

weddings,babies and Marines! Well, nothing like getting everything done at once! May is looking like it will be a busy month and I'm not quite sure how to handle some of it. First, Nathanael and Becky have moved their wedding up to May 3, due to the Navy sending Nathanael off to school for 2 months in June. Hannah is due May 20 but, we all know that means little, and Aaron is scheduled to leave for boot camp May 24. Therein lies the problem! I'm planning to be with Hannah when the baby comes and yet I want to see my boy off to boot camp. I'm hoping Baby will wait till after the 24th. Maybe we can pray that way. I know- but, I think Hannah would want me here to see Aaron off, too.
Anyhow- Tom will really be on his own for a few weeks! Well, at least 2. Hopefully by that time Hannah and Andy will have the internet up and running so we can utilize the web-cam!
Boy-won't emotions be going all over for the month of May! Whew!
I'll try to post some new pics. Uncle took some of my favorite man in the world and I think Andy will like the snow.

That's the stuff that flows pretty thick and heavy sometimes between Tom and the boys. They have a lot of fun trying to outdo each other. You know the saying though-'there's a difference between a man and a boy!' We'll see how it goes when Aaron is back from boot camp! I'm sure there will be a challenge for Dad!
